Patrice Shaw, January reader of the month-creating adventures.
After doing Reader of the month for over a year, the one thing that jumps out at me every time a reader sends back the filled in questionnaire is their diversity. I’m still a ‘P’ plater when it comes to writing and I’m the first one to admit that I have lots to learn. But what I do know from my experience as a horse breeder is that life is diverse. Human beings are diverse—that’s just the way of things. It’s this difference and the adventures of life that fascinates me and pushes me to write.
Daisaku Ikeda http://www.ikedaquotes.org/stories/valuing-diversity in the article Valuing Diversity states:
… “Having our rights recognized by others is not just a matter of having people behave sympathetically toward us. We must live with dignity and be proud of ourselves as individuals, regardless of our situation. Those who deride or make fun of us are cruel and wrong for ignoring our right to be treated as a human being. We must never let their taunts get to us. Developing our own strength of character is a victory for human rights.
I have always believed that we should recognize differences and, because of them, work harder to get to know and understand each other as human beings. Those who can enjoy differences and discover the greatest beauty and value in them are masters in life. The Earth nurtures us all. It revitalises all people without distinction. A vibrant wellspring of pure compassion surges from its soil, and if we can find our deepest roots in this spring of all-embracing life, then superficial differences of gender and race will no longer divide, but will enrich us all.”
Wonderful words that highlight when people’s differences ARE appreciated, they enrich us all as we move ahead to tackle life’s adventures and be the best that we can be.
My Reader of the month for January 2013, Patrice Shaw enriches lives as she weaves written words together creating adventures for the reader.

Is there something you would like to share with us about your passion for writing, your work and some of the things you enjoy? I love words and my idea of a perfect day is to be curled up with a good book. It took me almost 40 years to work out that I wanted to be an editor and the part I enjoy most about my job is helping writers to make their manuscripts the best they can possibly be.

Love Patrice’s honesty about herself and her ability to say so much in so few words. Made mine look like a book in comparison!

Thanks also Carmel, for your piece above about deriding and making fun of people. I have a terrible habit of correcting my husband’s poor grammar but should learn to ignore it and appreciate his good qualities!

Don’t we all get on a bit of a tangent about our pet dislikes Jenny but that’s what I love most about people – how different we all are. I really enjoyed your Reader of the Month and my idea of having this profile is to show readers just how wonderfully diverse and talented we all are. Always love your comments Jenny thanks so much.
