The truth about horses …
Yesterday I received a lesson from our stallion.
He was standing at the fence about forty paces from our back deck staring at the house and calling out as if he had something important to tell us ….

Clearly, he did have something important to tell us so I wrote this little poem because it wasn’t anything half as romantic as I had hoped or imagined.
“Typical” words Carmel Rowley
His gaze remained focused, eyes splintered with light
that reflected the centuries, life echoes, hindsight.
He sprung and cavorted then stood at the fence,
called loudly, his voice urgent, full and intense.
Had he but spoken we’d be acquainted by speech,
the romance, the legends, so much he could teach.
Instead he called strident, demanding – a plea.
I smiled and I sighed, how I love my grey steed.
From the barn came a clanking, he neighed throaty with need.
Ah, now it is clear – he just wanted his feed!

Hi Beth, The poem just came to me after I took the photographs of Stav. Foolish me thought he was looking for me but …. it was the food and you’re so right food must always be on the top of the list way before any sort of hugging 😉 Love having you comment and so thrilled you enjoyed the poem.
